The SECO 02625479 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert in the MDT series, designed for precision grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to grade TGP25 with a Duratomic TiCN/Al2O3 coating applied via a controlled CVD process, this insert delivers consistent tool life on demanding workpiece materials. It carries a neutral hand orientation, a 0.157 inch maximum cutting width, and a 0.177 inch cutting height, making it well suited for shallow grooving passes where tight dimensional control is required. The FT chipbreaker geometry and 7-degree relief angle support controlled chip evacuation during interrupted and continuous cuts. Machinists and tool cribs in production shops rely on this insert for repeatable performance in high-volume turning cells.
This insert is intended for use on cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon and alloy steels, corresponding to ISO material groups K, M, and P. It is suited to finish and semi-finish turning and grooving applications in both production and job-shop environments. The single-end configuration and LCMR insert style make it compatible with MDT-series toolholders designed for that insert geometry. The insert size code is 160404, which defines the seating and clamping envelope for holder selection. No full-radius geometry is present; the corner radius is 0.016 inches.

This insert is installed and replaced by a machinist or toolroom technician. Before changing inserts, power down the spindle and engage the machine e-stop per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamp; do not overtighten by hand-estimating torque. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
