The SECO 02551633 is a multi-directional turning (MDT) insert designed for precision grooving and turning operations in demanding machining environments. Built from solid carbide with a micrograin grade substrate and a PVD-applied CP200 coating, this double-ended insert delivers consistent edge performance and extended tool life. It carries the LCMF1605M0 insert style designation with an MP chipbreaker geometry, a neutral hand orientation, and a full-radius profile. The insert is held in place by a clamp-style seat and is suited for use in high-productivity turning centers and CNC lathes where tight tolerances and surface finish are critical. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists are the primary installers and applicators.
This insert is engineered for cutting superalloys and titanium, material codes M and S, which are among the most thermally and mechanically demanding workpiece materials in aerospace, medical, and energy component manufacturing. The CP200 grade with PVD coating is specifically matched to these materials to resist built-up edge, thermal cracking, and flank wear during interrupted or continuous turning passes. The MDT series design supports multi-directional cutting paths, making it applicable in profiling and grooving cycles where tool engagement direction changes during the operation.
Designed for use in MDT series toolholders accepting LCMF-style inserts with an insert seat size of 16. Primary workpiece material compatibility is superalloys and titanium (material codes M and S).
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out state. Use the appropriate clamp and torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rates established during the tooling setup process for the specific workpiece material and machine configuration.
