The SECO 02517578 is a solid carbide milling insert designated XOMX120408TR-MD13, engineered for use in indexable face and shoulder milling operations. Manufactured in the F40M fine-grain carbide grade and coated with a PVD-applied TiAlN plus TiN multilayer coating, this insert delivers heat resistance and edge durability across a range of metalcutting applications. The parallelogram insert body features a positive rake geometry with a 14.6-degree rake angle and a T-Land cutting edge style, contributing to reduced cutting forces and stable chip formation. Two cutting edges are available per insert. The MD13 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during milling of steel, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. This insert is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians operating CNC or manual milling equipment.
This insert is suited for both roughing and semi-finishing milling passes on workpiece materials including steel, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material groups P, K, S, and N. The positive rake and T-Land edge preparation make it particularly effective on difficult-to-machine materials where edge stability and surface finish are priorities. The insert is held in the cutter body by a screw-clamping method and is designed for right-hand cutting. It is compatible with SECO cutter series R217.69-12 and R220.69-12.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the spindle fully powered down and locked out before any insert change. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the cutter body manufacturer's specified torque for the pocket style. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert, as contamination affects runout and edge life. Dispose of worn inserts in accordance with shop carbide-recycling procedures.
