The SECO 02505954 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the TPU series designation, this insert carries a triangular shape (60-degree included angle) with a neutral hand orientation and a 0.0312-inch corner radius. The F40M grade substrate receives a PVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, TiAlN, and TiN, providing wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of workpiece materials. The 0.5-inch inscribed circle and 0.1875-inch thickness conform to ANSI and ISO dimensional standards, making direct substitution straightforward for machinists working from tooling prints.
This insert is suited for general turning operations where a positive rake, flat-top chip breaker geometry is appropriate. The three cutting edges and clamp holding method make it compatible with standard TPU-style toolholders used in production and job-shop environments. It is appropriate for both roughing and finishing passes on materials within the C5 material grade range. Machinists, CNC operators, and tooling specialists in metalworking and manufacturing applications are the primary installers and users of this insert.
Designed for use in TPU-style clamp-type toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO insert seating standards; ISO industry standard number TPUN220408T applies for cross-reference to compatible toolholders and equivalent inserts.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedures followed. Seat the insert firmly in the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the seating pocket for chips or debris before installing a new edge. Verify insert orientation and clearance angle match the programmed tool path before resuming cutting operations.
