The SECO 02505948 is a solid carbide milling insert with a TPKN triangle shape, manufactured to the TPKN2204PDTR-MD15 designation and carrying the T350M grade. It features a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 dual-layer coating over a medium grain carbide substrate, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous milling operations. The insert has a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 3/16 inch thickness, and a 3/64 inch corner radius. Three cutting edges are available per insert, and the right-hand orientation is designed for wedge-clamp toolholding systems. The MD15 chipbreaker geometry suits a wide range of feed rates on ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials.
This insert is intended for milling applications in stainless steel as the primary workpiece material, with additional suitability for steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. It fits the SECO R220.17-22 cutter series. Typical applications include face milling and shoulder milling on mid-production and high-production CNC machining centers in both job shop and industrial manufacturing environments. The neutral rake angle and T-Land cutting edge style make this insert appropriate for moderate to aggressive depth-of-cut scenarios, with a maximum depth of cut reaching 0.8661 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary installers.
Designed for use with the SECO R220.17-22 cutter series. The TPKN-22 series designation and ANSI/ISO code TPKN2204PDTR-MD15 provide the basis for cross-referencing with compatible toolholders conforming to the TPKN 22 04 insert seat specification.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Before seating the insert, clean the insert pocket and wedge clamp contact surfaces to remove chips and debris that can cause improper seating or premature edge failure. Torque the wedge clamp fastener according to the toolholder manufacturer specification only. Inspect the cutting edge condition at recommended interval changes and rotate to the next edge before the worn edge causes workpiece damage or toolholder seat wear.
