The SECO 02505937 is a solid carbide square milling insert in the SPMX-12 series, carrying the manufacturer grade designation F40M. It features a TiAlN and TiN dual-layer PVD coating applied over a fine-grain carbide substrate, delivering hardness and thermal resistance in demanding milling operations. The insert measures 0.5 inches in length and width, with a thickness of 0.1563 inches. Four cutting edges and a neutral rake geometry make this a versatile choice for machinists and toolroom technicians running face, shoulder, or copy milling applications. A T-Land cutting edge style adds edge stability when cutting harder workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. Primary material codes are P, K, and S, with secondary suitability for K and N grade materials. The neutral hand orientation means it can run in either direction of cut without repositioning the toolholder. Typical applications include roughing and semi-finishing passes on ferrous and exotic alloy components in both production-shop and job-shop environments. The 75 chip breaker geometry supports consistent chip formation across this range of materials.
Designed for use with cutter series R215.49-3, R220.69, and R417.19-3. Insert style code SPMX12T3AP-75 conforms to ANSI and ISO standards. Held in the toolholder by screw-lock method.
Insert seating and torque should follow the cutter body manufacturer's specification for the applicable toolholder series. Power down the spindle and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the clamping screw — do not over-torque, as this can crack the carbide or strip the clamping hole. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
