The SECO 02505822 is a solid carbide milling insert in the APKT 1604PDR-E12 configuration, grade F40M, designed for high-performance indexable milling operations. The insert features a parallelogram shape with an 85-degree included angle, positive rake geometry at 22 degrees, and a honed cutting edge style that reduces built-up edge on difficult materials. A dual-layer TiAlN and TiN PVD coating provides wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of cutting conditions. With 2 cutting edges per insert and a screw-in holding method, it is suited for productive toolpath programming in steel, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium applications.
This insert is intended for use in indexable face mills and shoulder mills by machinists and tooling professionals in production and job-shop environments. The APKT 1604PDR-E12 geometry is a right-hand configuration compatible with R217.69-16 and R220.69-16 cutter bodies. It is well suited for roughing and semi-finishing passes in steel and cast iron, and is also capable in superalloy and titanium cutting where the fine-grain carbide substrate and PVD coating help maintain edge integrity at elevated temperatures.
Compatible with SECO cutter series R217.69-16 and R220.69-16 indexable milling bodies. Designed for machining steel (P), cast iron (K), superalloys and titanium (S) as primary workpiece materials, with cast iron and non-ferrous metals as secondary application materials.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician using the appropriate Torx or hex key for the insert clamping screw — always consult the cutter body documentation for the correct fastener specification. Ensure the cutter body pocket is clean and free of chips before seating the insert to maintain proper seating and runout. Verify insert orientation matches the right-hand designation of the cutter before engaging the spindle. Follow shop safety protocols and machine lockout procedures when changing inserts on the spindle.
