The SECO 02455163 is a multi-directional turning (MDT) insert designed for high-performance hard turning applications. It features a Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) cutting material in manufacturer grade CBN200, making it suited for machining hardened steels, cast irons, and superalloys where conventional carbide tooling falls short. The insert follows LCGN style geometry with a chipbreaker designation of LF and is a single-end configuration. Cutting height is 0.177 inches, maximum cutting width is 0.118 inches, and corner radius is 0.016 inches. This insert is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians working on CNC turning centers and lathes.
This insert belongs to the Secomax MDT series and is intended for precision turning and finishing operations. The LCGN insert style and LF chipbreaker combination is optimized for controlled chip flow during interrupted or continuous cuts on hard materials. Typical applications include finish turning of hardened components in aerospace, automotive, and general machining environments where tight tolerances and surface finish are critical. The single-end design provides one cutting edge per insert.
Designed for use in toolholders and boring bars compatible with the LCGN insert style within the Secomax MDT series. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping system before installation.
PCBN inserts should be installed by qualified machinists familiar with hard-turning tooling systems. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are fully stopped and locked out before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as PCBN is brittle and sensitive to clamping stress. Inspect the insert seat and clamping pocket for chips or debris before installation to avoid insert fracture during cutting.
