The SECO 02448984 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying manufacturer part number SEEX1204AFTN-M14 and grade F40M. The insert features a square SEEX-style geometry with a 90-degree included angle, four cutting edges, and a neutral hand orientation. A PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual-layer coating provides wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, thickness is 0.187 inches, and the maximum depth of cut reaches 0.3425 inches. A positive rake angle of 5 degrees combined with a T-Land cutting edge style and M14 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation across a range of workpiece materials. The screw-held insert seats in compatible SECO cutter bodies and is rated for multi-use applications.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium, covering ISO material codes P, K, S, and N. The fine-grain carbide substrate and PVD coating make it appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing passes where edge integrity and chip control are priorities. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose milling in job shop, production, and maintenance environments. Installation is performed by CNC machinists or tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the tool assembly secured before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the cutter body manufacturer's specified torque as listed in the cutter body documentation — do not estimate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure full and stable seating.
