The SECO 02444864 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal partial-profile 60-degree thread cutting. Part of the Snap Tap series, it carries a CP500 grade designation and a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating applied via physical vapor deposition. The insert handles a thread pitch range of 0.50 to 3.00 mm, covering 48 to 8 TPI, making it a versatile choice for threading operations across a broad range of thread sizes. The 16NR insert style is a right-hand configuration, suited for internal threading applications in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is appropriate for use on CNC turning centers and lathes performing internal threading passes on a wide range of workpiece materials, including steels, stainless alloys, cast irons, aluminum, and superalloys, as reflected by its universal primary workpiece material classification with ISO material codes K, M, P, and S. It is a common choice for machinists and toolroom operators working to ISO thread standards who need a single insert geometry to cover multiple pitch sizes without a toolholder change.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for 16NR-style internal threading toolholders conforming to ISO insert standards. Compatible with toolholders accepting a 16NR laydown insert style with a 9.53 mm inscribed circle.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down the machine and engage all lockout/tagout procedures before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert — do not overtighten by feel alone, as insert breakage can result. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating to ensure full contact and accurate positioning.
