The SECO 02067 is a solid cobalt tool bit blank designed for custom grinding and toolroom applications. Manufactured from WKE45-grade cobalt high-speed steel, this blank provides a tough starting stock for machinists and tool grinders who need to profile single-point cutting tools, form tools, or specialty inserts to exact geometry. The round cross-section measures 0.25 inches in width and 0.25 inches in height, with a 4-inch overall length that gives sufficient material for grinding to final shape. WKE45 cobalt steel offers elevated hot hardness compared to standard M2 HSS, making it well suited for applications where heat buildup at the cutting edge is a concern.
This tool bit blank is used in machine shops, tool-and-die operations, and maintenance departments where off-the-shelf insert geometry is not suitable. It is a common stock item for lathe tooling, boring bar applications, and custom form tool fabrication. Machinists grind the blank to the required rake, clearance, and nose radius angles using bench or surface grinders. The round profile is particularly useful for boring and fly-cutter applications where a cylindrical shank is needed.
Designed as a general-purpose cobalt HSS tool bit blank suitable for grinding into single-point lathe tools, boring tools, and custom form tools used in standard toolpost and boring bar holders that accept 0.25-inch square or round shank stock.
Grinding of cobalt HSS blanks should be performed by qualified machinists or tool grinders using appropriate wheel selection for high-speed steel. Eye protection and grinding guards must be in place per applicable shop safety standards. Avoid overheating the blank during grinding, as excessive heat can reduce edge hardness; use coolant or frequent dipping in water when dry-grinding. Secure the blank firmly in a tool grinder or surface grinder fixture before beginning stock removal.
