The SECO 02020 is a solid cobalt tool bit blank ground to a square cross-section for use in custom tooling and manual grinding applications. Manufactured from WKE45 cobalt high-speed steel, this blank measures 3/4 inches wide by 3/4 inches high with a 5-inch overall length. It arrives unground, allowing machinists and tool-and-die professionals to profile the cutting geometry to the exact form required for the job. WKE45 cobalt grade offers elevated hot hardness and wear resistance compared to standard M2 high-speed steel, making it well suited for interrupted cuts, tough alloys, and higher cutting temperatures.
This tool bit blank is used in manual and CNC lathe tooling setups, boring operations, and custom form-tool fabrication. It is a standard choice for job shops, maintenance machining, and training environments where operators need to grind their own single-point tools to specific profiles. The square shank format fits standard tool holders and lantern-style post holders used on engine lathes and turret lathes.
Designed as a standard-format replacement or shop-stock tool bit blank for use in 3/4-inch square-shank tool holders on engine lathes, turret lathes, and similar manual turning equipment.
Grinding tool bit blanks requires a bench or pedestal grinder with appropriate aluminum oxide or CBN wheels rated for high-speed steel. Eye protection and proper wheel guards must be in place before grinding. Allow the blank to cool during grinding to avoid drawing the temper of the cobalt steel. This work is typically performed by machinists or tool-and-die technicians following shop grinding procedures.
