The SECO 02006 is a square tool bit blank ground from WKE45-grade cobalt high-speed steel. It measures 5/16 inches wide by 5/16 inches high with a 3-inch overall length. Tool bit blanks serve as the raw stock that machinists and tool grinders shape into single-point cutting tools, form tools, and custom profiles. The cobalt content in WKE45 raises red hardness and wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS, making this blank well-suited for applications involving harder workpiece materials or higher cutting temperatures. Machinists and tool-and-die shops stock these blanks and grind them to the specific geometry required for the job.
This blank is appropriate for manual and CNC lathe tooling, boring bar inserts, threading tools, and form tool applications across job shops, maintenance shops, and production environments. Its square cross-section and 3-inch length provide enough stock for grinding a working cutting edge and a secure clamping zone in a standard tool holder or boring bar shank. The WKE45 cobalt grade performs reliably on cast iron, hardened steel, stainless, and other difficult-to-machine materials.
Designed as a standard square tool bit blank compatible with tool holders, boring bars, and grinding fixtures that accept 5/16 inch square shank stock.
Grinding tool bit blanks requires a bench or pedestal grinder fitted with an appropriate wheel for high-speed steel. Machinists should wear face and eye protection and follow shop safety protocols when grinding. Ensure the finished tool bit is properly seated and clamped in the tool holder before engaging the workpiece. Allow the blank to cool during grinding to avoid thermal damage to the cutting edge.
