The SECO 02000 is a square tool bit blank machined from WKE45-grade cobalt high-speed steel. At 3/16 inches wide by 3/16 inches high and 2.5 inches in overall length, this blank provides the raw stock needed to grind a custom cutting profile for lathe, mill, or shaper operations. WKE45 cobalt-grade material offers elevated heat resistance and wear toughness compared to standard M2 high-speed steel, making it well suited for harder workpiece materials and interrupted cuts. Machinists and toolroom technicians grind these blanks to the exact geometry required for a given operation.
This tool bit blank is used in toolroom and production machining environments where standard insert tooling cannot deliver the precise profile needed. Typical applications include single-point turning, threading, and form tool work on manual lathes and horizontal mills. The square cross-section allows the blank to be oriented in any of four positions before grinding, extending usable stock life. Suitable for cutting ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials where cobalt HSS grades are specified.
Designed as a standard-profile blank for use in tool holders and lantern-post setups that accept 3/16-inch square shank tool bits.
Tool bit blanks are ground to final geometry by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician using a bench grinder or surface grinder equipped with an appropriate wheel. Secure the blank firmly in a grinding fixture or vise to maintain consistent angles and avoid freehand errors. Wear appropriate eye protection and ensure the grinding wheel is rated for HSS material. Inspect the finished cutting edge before mounting the tool in the holder for use.
