The SECO 00731880 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external threading and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the 10NR103FG insert style in grade CP500, it features a PVD-applied dual-layer TiAlN and TiN coating that supports extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert delivers a cutting width of 0.103 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.103 inches. Clamp-style holding keeps the insert securely seated during interrupted cuts and high-feed passes. This part is part of the Snap Tap series and conforms to ISO standards.
This insert is suited for use in metal-cutting environments where consistent groove geometry and tight tolerances are required. The universal primary workpiece material rating covers ferrous, non-ferrous, stainless, high-temp alloys, hardened materials, and cast iron, making it a versatile choice for job shops and production turning operations. Right-hand cutting orientation means it is compatible with standard right-hand Snap Tap toolholders. The FG chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation across varying feed rates and depths.
Designed for use with Snap Tap series right-hand toolholders accepting a size 10 insert seat with a 0.250 inch (1/4 inch) inscribed circle. Compatible across universal workpiece material grades as defined by ISO codes H, K, M, N, O, P, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Seat the insert fully in the clamp pocket before tightening to ensure proper contact with the insert seat surfaces. Verify right-hand toolholder orientation before indexing to avoid interference. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and tooling manufacturer guidelines for clamping torque and insert indexing procedures.
