The SECO 00099808 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNMP-MF1 series, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. It carries the CP500 manufacturer grade and features a multilayer PVD coating combining TiAlN and TiN for extended tool life on stainless steel and other demanding workpiece materials. The insert has a 1/2 inch inscribed circle, a 1/32 inch corner radius, and a 90-degree square geometry with a neutral hand orientation. Eight available cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style make this insert an efficient choice for production turning operations. The MF1 chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation at moderate feed rates.
This insert is suited for boring, facing, and turning operations across a range of workpiece materials. Its primary workpiece material designation is stainless steel (ISO material group M), with secondary suitability for steel (P), cast iron (K), and super-alloys and titanium (S). The CP500 grade and PVD coating combination targets material grades M10, M20, and M30, making it applicable in both general-purpose and more demanding production environments. It is compatible with clamp, pin, and lever lock insert holding methods commonly found on indexable turning toolholders.
Designed for use in indexable turning toolholders that accept SNMP-style square inserts with a 0.2028 inch hole diameter, supporting clamp, pin, and lever lock holding methods. ISO equivalent designation is SNMG120408-MF1. Suitable for boring, facing, and turning on stainless steel, steel, cast iron, super-alloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician following standard indexable insert changeout procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp hardware for the toolholder type to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure. Handle carbide inserts carefully to prevent chipping on the cutting edges prior to use.
