The SECO 00096871 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCMT series, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual turning applications. The insert carries the CP500 manufacturer grade and features a multilayer TiAlN and TiN PVD coating for improved wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake and positive side clearance supports efficient chip evacuation during finishing operations. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, this insert is suited to light-to-moderate finishing cuts where edge sharpness and surface finish are the priority.
This insert is intended for finishing operations on stainless steel as the primary workpiece material, with additional suitability for steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Multi-use application capability covers back turning, boring, facing, and turning. The F1 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, making this insert appropriate for production environments where tight tolerances and consistent surface finish are required. It is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible toolholder pairing.
Conforms to ANSI insert code DCMT32.51 and ISO insert code DCMT11T304, fitting toolholders designed to accept DCMT-style inserts with a screw-clamp holding method. Suitable for workpiece materials coded P, K, and S including stainless steel, steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Material grades M10, M20, and M30 apply.
Installation is performed by machining professionals using a torx or hex key appropriate to the toolholder screw specification. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket is clean and free of chips before tightening the clamping screw to avoid seating errors that can cause premature edge failure. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for proper screw torque and insert orientation.
