The SECO 00096869 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCMT series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a multilayer TiAlN and TiN PVD coating and the CP500 manufacturer grade, optimizing it for stainless steel as the primary workpiece material. The 55-degree diamond insert shape provides a sharp cutting edge with a 7-degree relief angle and a 0.0079-inch corner radius. Two cutting edges per insert and a positive rake geometry reduce cutting forces and extend tool life. Installation is handled via a screw-clamp holding method.
This insert is suited for a range of turning operations including back turning, boring, facing, and general turning. It performs well on stainless steel, steel, cast iron, and super-alloys including titanium. The F1 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light intermediate cuts. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard right-hand and left-hand toolholders configured for DCMT-style inserts. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with an ISO designation of DCMT11T302-F1 and an industry standard number of DCMT32.50.5-F1.

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamp screw, and inspect the pocket for chips or debris that could affect seating. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specification for the clamp screw; do not over-torque, as this can fracture the carbide insert.
