The SECO 00096866 is a CNMG433-MR3 indexable carbide turning insert in the CP500 grade, designed for external and internal turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 3/64-inch corner radius. The PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN multilayer coating delivers a balance of wear resistance and toughness across a wide range of workpiece materials. The MR3 chip breaker geometry is suited for roughing and medium machining operations. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
The 00096866 is appropriate for machining stainless steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary applications in steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for conventional right-hand toolholders. Its negative rake and negative side clearance geometry are consistent with CNMG-style toolholders used across a broad range of turning applications including roughing passes on difficult-to-machine materials. Material grades M10, M20, and M30 indicate suitability across a spectrum from moderate to high toughness demand. Applications include ISO material groups P, K, and S.
Designed to fit CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 0.5-inch inscribed circle insert with negative rake geometry and clamp, pin, or lever lock retention. Conforms to ANSI insert code CNMG433 and ISO insert code CNMG120412. Industry standard number CNMG433-MR3; ISO code CNMG120412-MR3.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware for the toolholder style in use. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before securing the insert to maintain edge accuracy and prevent premature tool failure.
