The SECO 00096865 is a CNMG432-MR3 indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a multilayer TiAlN and TiN PVD coating in the CP500 grade. It features an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake angle, making it suitable for heavy-duty cutting applications on difficult materials. The insert has a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and 4 cutting edges. It is installed by machinists and CNC lathe operators performing turning, facing, and boring operations where consistent edge performance and wear resistance are required.
This insert is designed primarily for machining stainless steel, with secondary suitability for steel, cast iron, super-alloys, and titanium. The MR3 chip breaker geometry supports stable chip control across a range of depths of cut up to 0.4764 inches. The chamfered and honed cutting edge style reduces chipping and extends tool life in interrupted and continuous cuts. It is well-suited for production turning environments running medium to heavy material removal rates on CNC or manual lathes.
Designed for use in toolholders conforming to CNMG insert style with ANSI and ISO standard seating. The ISO designation for this insert is CNMG120408-MR3. Suitable for use with clamp, pin, and lever lock holding methods on compatible CNMG toolholders.
Installation is performed by machinists using a torx or hex key appropriate to the toolholder clamping system. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the toolholder removed from the turret before indexing or replacing the insert. Confirm the insert pocket is clean and free of chips before seating to ensure proper clamping contact. Follow toolholder manufacturer guidelines for clamping method and insert orientation when using pin or lever lock systems.
