The SECO 00096859 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNGP-MF1 series, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC turning applications. It carries the industry standard designation CNGP430.5F-MF1 and manufacturer grade CP500. The insert features a multilayer PVD TiAlN and TiN coating for extended tool life and thermal resistance. With an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a sharp cutting edge style paired with the MF1 chip breaker geometry, this insert is configured for finishing operations. It has 4 available cutting edges and accepts clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods.
This insert is suited for finishing cuts on stainless steel, steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. It is categorized under material grades M10, M20, and M30, reflecting a range of moderate to high wear-resistance and toughness across steel, cast iron, and special alloy workpiece groups. Typical applications include boring, facing, and turning on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production shop and job shop environments. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable across a range of toolholder setups. A licensed machinist or CNC operator performs the insert change and tool setup.
Designed for use in toolholders and boring bars that accept CNGP-style inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, negative rake, negative side clearance, and clamp, pin, or lever lock insert holding. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for this insert geometry.
Insert changes should be performed with the machine fully powered down and the spindle at a complete stop. Use the appropriate torque wrench and seating hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert via clamp, pin, or lever lock. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for debris or damage before installing a new insert. Verify the insert is fully seated before resuming cutting operations.
