The SECO 00096708 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBMT-F1 series, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI designation VBMT21.51-F1 and ISO code VBMT110204-F1. The insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake and positive side clearance, a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The CP500 grade uses a multilayer PVD coating combining TiAlN and TiN, delivering moderate to high wear resistance with retained toughness across steel, cast iron, and superalloy workpiece materials. It is installed and changed by machinists and CNC operators using a screw-clamp holding method.
This insert is suited for finishing passes in turning, facing, back turning, and profiling operations. It performs across stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The F1 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, supporting light-to-moderate depths of cut up to 0.4173 inches. It is appropriate for both job shop and production environments where consistent surface finish and close tolerances are required. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard VBMT-style toolholders used across a wide range of turning setups.

Installation is performed by machinists using the screw-clamp insert holding method standard for VBMT toolholders. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder pocket is clean and free of debris before seating the insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut for the selected feed rate and workpiece material. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance for the clamping screw to avoid insert movement or seat damage.
