The SECO 00094729 is a solid carbide milling insert in an octagon shape, designed for use in face and shoulder milling operations across a range of demanding workpiece materials. Carrying manufacturer grade F40M with a fine grain carbide substrate, this insert features a TiAlN and TiN dual-layer coating applied via PVD process for improved wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert measures 0.5 inches in length and width with a thickness of 0.1484 inches and delivers 8 usable cutting edges per insert, reducing tooling cost per edge. It is installed and changed by machinists and toolroom technicians working on CNC machining centers and milling platforms.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. The neutral rake and T-land cutting edge style provide a balanced combination of edge strength and surface finish quality across both roughing and semi-finishing applications. The M08 chip breaker geometry is optimized for moderate chip control in these material groups. It is a single-sided insert held by screw clamping in compatible milling cutter bodies.
Designed for use in SECO cutter series R217.43-05 and R220.43-05 milling cutter bodies that accept OFEX-05 series inserts with screw-type insert holding.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine locked out per facility safety procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer when seating the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow ISO tooling standards and the cutter body manufacturer guidelines for correct insert orientation and seating confirmation before resuming operation.
