The SECO 00088705 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert in the MDT series, designed for external turning, grooving, and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the CP600 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of workpiece materials. The insert measures 0.630 inches in length with a maximum cutting width of 0.157 inches and a cutting height of 0.177 inches. A 0.008-inch corner radius and MC chipbreaker geometry support controlled chip flow during moderate to high-feed passes. Neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both left- and right-hand toolholders.
This insert is suited for machining stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to ISO material codes M, N, P, and S. Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down and spindle locked. Torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification using the correct hex key — do not over-torque, as this can damage the carbide insert or seating pocket. Inspect the seating pocket for chips or debris before installing the insert. Confirm coolant flow direction and pressure are appropriate for the material grade and cutting parameters before resuming operation.
