The SECO 00088700 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert in the MDT series, designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the CP600 manufacturer grade with a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating applied to a C5 carbide substrate. The neutral-hand LCMF-style insert features a 0.118-inch maximum cutting width, a 0.177-inch cutting height, and a 0.008-inch corner radius. The MC chipbreaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation across a range of workpiece materials. Installation and tool changes are performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians as part of routine insert indexing.
The 00088700 is suited for machining stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys, corresponding to ISO material groups M, N, P, and S. Its double-ended configuration provides two usable cutting edges per insert, reducing tooling cost per edge. The LCMF160302-0300-MCR15 style designation confirms direct compatibility with SECO MDT-series toolholders designed for the LCMF 160302 insert seat. Typical applications include shallow profiling, face grooving, and multi-directional turning passes where a single insert must handle axial and radial cutting loads.

Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Disengage the machine spindle and confirm the turret is fully stopped before handling inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert to the correct seating torque per the toolholder documentation. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for damage before seating a new insert.
