The SECO 00078016 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal thread cutting operations. Designated 16NRAG60-A2 in the Snap-Tap series, it carries a CP500 manufacturer grade and is finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating for extended tool life. The insert cuts a partial profile 60-degree thread using a right-hand cutting direction, covering a threads-per-inch range of 48 to 8 TPI and a metric pitch range of 0.50 to 3.00 mm. With a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.1366 inches, it fits standard toolholders designed for that IC size. Installation is handled by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for internal threading on a broad range of workpiece materials. The universal primary workpiece material classification covers ISO material groups K, M, P, and S, meaning it is suited for cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. Typical applications include threading bores on machined components in automotive, aerospace, and general manufacturing settings where consistent thread form and dimensional accuracy are required across variable pitch requirements.
Designed for use in Snap-Tap series toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle laydown threading insert. Conforms to ISO standards for insert geometry and fitment.
This insert is installed and replaced by machinists or CNC technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to avoid cracking the carbide substrate. Verify thread pitch and TPI settings on the machine control before initiating a threading pass.
