The SECO 00077977 is a laydown threading insert engineered for right-hand internal UN thread cutting at 8 threads per inch. Built from micrograin solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating, this insert carries the CP500 manufacturer grade and A2 chipbreaker geometry. The 60-degree included angle conforms to UN thread form standards, and the 3/8-inch inscribed circle suits a wide range of standard toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators working in production threading applications will find this insert suited to demanding internal threading cycles, particularly in stainless steel and other ISO M-group workpiece materials.
This insert is designed for internal threading operations on stainless steel (ISO material group M) and similar difficult-to-machine alloys. It belongs to SECO's Snap Tap series, which targets precision thread-form replication in both job shop and production environments. The A2 chipbreaker geometry assists with chip control during internal threading passes where chip evacuation is critical. Right-hand cutting orientation is standard for the majority of conventional CNC lathe threading cycles. Installers should verify toolholder compatibility with the 16NR insert style before ordering.
Designed for use with 16NR-style internal threading toolholders in the Snap Tap series. Confirmed for right-hand internal UN threading at 8 TPI. Verify toolholder acceptance of the 16NR laydown insert style prior to installation.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC lathe operators. Power down and de-energize the machine before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key at the manufacturer-recommended seating procedure for laydown insert styles — do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or damage before seating the insert to ensure proper form contact and thread accuracy.
