The SECO 00077965 is a laydown threading insert designed for internal ISO thread cutting. Built from solid carbide with a micrograin substrate and manufactured to the CP500 grade, it carries a TiAlN/TiN coating applied via PVD process. The insert seats in the 16NR style and cuts a standard 60-degree included-angle ISO thread profile at a 2.0mm pitch. It is right-hand oriented and suited for single-point threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The A2 chipbreaker geometry helps manage chip flow during threading passes on challenging materials. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments install this insert as part of a Snap Tap toolholder system.
This insert is intended for internal threading applications, particularly on stainless steel workpieces classified under material grade M. The 2.0mm ISO pitch makes it a direct fit for metric fastener thread forms commonly found in industrial, automotive, and aerospace components. It is well suited for precision threading in tight-tolerance bores where a solid carbide insert with a PVD coating outperforms uncoated or CVD-coated alternatives in terms of edge sharpness and coating adhesion.
Designed for use with 16NR-style laydown threading toolholders in the SECO Snap Tap series for internal ISO threading applications.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists and turning center operators. Power down or place the machine in a safe state before indexing or replacing inserts. Use a torque wrench appropriate for carbide insert clamping screws and follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque guidelines. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure full and even support of the carbide substrate.
