The SECO 00077958 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision threading and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured in the 9NR insert style with a CP500 grade micrograin carbide substrate, this insert carries a PVD-applied dual coating of TiAlN and TiN for wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The cutting width is 0.086 inches with a maximum depth of cut of 0.086 inches and an overall length of 0.3543 inches. The insert is right-hand oriented, uses a clamp holding method, and belongs to the Snap Tap series. It is intended for use by machinists and toolroom technicians running production or job-shop turning operations.
This insert is suited for grooving and parting applications across universal workpiece material categories, including ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, stainless steels, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials, as indicated by the material grade codes H, K, M, N, O, P, and S. The Snap Tap series design is commonly used in threading and grooving tool holders configured for small-diameter internal or external groove profiles. The FG chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation at the stated depth-of-cut range of 0.075 to 0.100 inches. This insert conforms to ISO standards and fits a size 9 insert seat with a 0.25 inch inscribed circle.
Designed for use in Snap Tap series toolholders accepting a size 9 insert seat with a 0.25 inch inscribed circle and clamp-style insert retention, conforming to ISO grooving insert standards.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per facility safety procedures. Seat the insert fully in the pocket before tightening the clamp to avoid micro-movement under cutting loads. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for debris or damage before each insert change. Do not exceed the manufacturer-stated maximum depth of cut for the insert grade and geometry in use.
