The SECO 00077947 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision groove turning and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the Snap Tap series specification, this left-hand insert carries a CP500 manufacturer grade micrograin carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating. The cutting width is 0.086 inches with a maximum depth of cut of 0.086 inches. The 9NL insert style uses a clamp-style holding method and features an FG chip breaker geometry suited for fine grooving work. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shop or production environments are the primary installers.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering material grade codes H, K, M, N, O, P, and S per ISO classification. That range spans steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. The Snap Tap series is built for external and face grooving applications where consistent groove width and wall quality are critical. Typical install scenarios include production turning of hydraulic fittings, shaft grooves, snap-ring grooves, and similar features requiring tight dimensional control.
Designed for use in Snap Tap series 9NL-style clamp toolholders with a size 9 insert seat accepting a 0.25 inch inscribed circle. Compatible with workpiece materials spanning ISO material groups H, K, M, N, O, P, and S as indicated by the manufacturer. Verify toolholder hand orientation before installation.
Installation of grooving inserts is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket before engaging the clamp to avoid insert rocking or improper clamping load. Confirm insert hand orientation matches the toolholder designation before running the program.
