The SECO 00077945 is a laydown threading insert designed for external thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. This solid carbide insert carries the CP500 manufacturer grade with a micrograin carbide substrate and a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating for extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. It cuts a partial profile 60-degree thread form at 14 to 8 threads per inch, covering metric pitches of 1.75 to 3.00 mm. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.1366-inch thickness conform to the 16ER insert style standard. Installation and setup are handled by machinists and CNC tooling specialists in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments.
This insert is suited for external threading operations on universal workpiece materials, including cast iron, steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to ISO material codes K, M, P, and S. The right-hand cutting configuration and A2 chipbreaker geometry make it applicable to standard right-hand thread cycles on turning centers. It is part of the SECO Snap Tap series and is sized for toolholders accepting the 16ER insert style. Typical applications include threading fastener features, fittings, and connection ends on turned components in general manufacturing.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use insert for 16ER-style external threading toolholders in accordance with ISO insert standards. Fits turning center and lathe tooling systems accepting the 16ER insert geometry.
This insert is installed and indexed by machinists using appropriate torx or clamping screws specified by the toolholder manufacturer — consult the toolholder documentation for proper clamping torque and seating procedure. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before indexing or replacing inserts. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate ranges published in the SECO Snap Tap application guide for the material group being machined. Proper coolant direction to the cutting edge is recommended when threading stainless steel and superalloy workpieces.
