The SECO 00077929 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision threading and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the CP500 grade using micrograin carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating, this insert delivers consistent edge integrity across a broad range of workpiece materials. The right-hand insert features a 0.174-inch cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.174 inches. It carries the FG chip breaker geometry and belongs to SECO's Snap Tap series, making it a direct fit for compatible Snap Tap toolholders. Machinists and toolroom technicians working in production turning environments are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for grooving and external threading applications on a wide range of workpiece materials. The universal primary workpiece material designation covers material codes H, K, M, N, O, P, and S, spanning cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, stainless steel, steel, and superalloys. The 0.174-inch cutting width and FG chip breaker make it well-suited for controlled-depth grooving where chip formation and surface finish are critical. Typical applications include OD grooving and snap-ring groove machining on turned components in both job-shop and high-volume production settings.
Designed for use with SECO Snap Tap series toolholders accepting a 20ER insert style with a size 20 insert seat and a 0.500-inch (1/2-inch) inscribed circle. Confirm toolholder and clamp compatibility before installation.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully stopped and in a locked-out, tagged-out state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-tighten or substitute hardware. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Verify runout and cutting edge position before resuming production.
