The SECO 00077928 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and snap-tap operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to ISO standards and coated with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN finish, this insert provides wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. The CP500 grade is built from micrograin carbide, delivering consistent edge integrity at production cutting speeds. With a 0.25-inch cutting width and a 0.25-inch maximum depth of cut, it suits standard grooving passes in both light and medium-duty turning applications. It is installed by machinists and CNC turning specialists as a clamp-held replacement insert.
This insert is suited for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering material codes H, K, M, N, O, P, and S — spanning cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, steel alloys, superalloys, and general-purpose materials. The right-hand cutting orientation and FA chip breaker geometry make it appropriate for external grooving on standard CNC turning centers and lathes in job-shop and production environments. The Snap Tap series designation indicates it is engineered for use with compatible Snap Tap insert holders requiring a 20 insert seat size.

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. The machine spindle must be brought to a full stop and the machine locked out before changing any insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified for the Snap Tap holder to secure the insert — do not overtighten or substitute non-matching clamp components. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and alignment.
