The SECO 00077927 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the Snap Tap series standard, this right-hand insert carries a CP500 grade micrograin carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating for extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The cutting width measures 0.139 inches with a maximum depth of cut of 0.139 inches, making it well suited for controlled, repeatable groove profiles in production turning environments. Machinists and toolroom technicians install this insert using a clamp-style holding method.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering material codes H, K, M, N, O, P, and S per ISO classification. That range includes hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, non-metals, general steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. It is appropriate for both light-duty job shop use and higher-volume production turning where consistent groove geometry is required. The Snap Tap series is a common platform in thread grooving and undercut applications on modern CNC turning equipment.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling insert for Snap Tap series clamp-style grooving toolholders accepting a size 14 insert seat with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle.
Installation of grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop and locked-out condition per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct clamp screw torque as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten or use substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert. Confirm insert orientation and hand designation match the toolholder before starting the spindle.
