The SECO 00077922 is a laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 18 threads per inch. Built from solid carbide in the CP500 grade (ISO material grade C5), it features a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating applied through a physical vapor deposition process. The 16ER insert style fits compatible toolholders in the Snap Tap series and is configured for right-hand cutting. With a 60-degree included angle and an A2 chipbreaker geometry, this insert is engineered for controlled chip formation during threading operations on stainless steel and similar ISO M-group materials. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for external threading applications on stainless steel workpieces classified under ISO material group M. The 18 TPI UN thread standard makes it appropriate for inch-series fastener and fitting threads common in industrial, fluid power, and mechanical assembly work. The CP500 grade with PVD TiAlN/TiN coating resists built-up edge and heat at the cutting zone, which is a common challenge when threading austenitic stainless steel and other work-hardening alloys. It is used in both manual and CNC lathe setups where consistent thread form and surface finish are required.
Designed for use in Snap Tap series toolholders accepting the 16ER insert style. Confirm toolholder seat dimensions and clamping style before installation. No specific compatible toolholder part numbers were provided in the product data.
Threading inserts of this type are installed and indexed by qualified machinists following machine tool manufacturer guidelines. Power down and lock out the lathe or turning center before changing or indexing inserts. Ensure the insert seat and clamping screw are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended cutting parameters for the CP500 grade on the target workpiece material.
