The SECO 00077885 is a laydown-style solid carbide threading insert designed for cutting external NPTF threads at 27 threads per inch (TPI). Part of the Snap-Tap series, it carries the CP500 manufacturer grade and features a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN finish for extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert has a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a thickness of 0.1366 inches, and a 0.0020 inch corner radius. The 60-degree included angle conforms to standard NPTF thread form geometry. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators use this insert in production and maintenance threading applications where consistent, leak-resistant pipe thread profiles are required.
This insert is suited for external NPTF tapered pipe thread turning operations on lathes and turning centers. Its universal primary workpiece material rating makes it appropriate for use on cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, steel, stainless, and high-temperature alloys. The right-hand cutting orientation fits standard right-hand threading toolholders configured for laydown insert seating. It is commonly specified in fluid system component manufacturing, instrumentation fittings, and hydraulic or pneumatic connector production where NPTF thread integrity is critical.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing any insert. Use the correct torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's recommended seating procedure — do not overtighten the clamp screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and repeatability.
