The SECO 00077861 is a laydown-style indexable threading insert designed for external UN thread turning operations. Built from solid carbide in the CP500 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN finish, it delivers consistent thread profile accuracy at 40 threads per inch with a 60-degree included angle. The 3/8 inch inscribed circle and 0.1366 inch thickness conform to the 16ER insert style geometry. This insert is intended for right-hand external threading on CNC lathes and turning centers. It is installed and changed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments where threaded-feature accuracy and insert repeatability are critical.
The 00077861 is suited for threading operations across a broad range of workpiece materials, including cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, steel, stainless steel, and heat-resistant superalloys, corresponding to material codes K, M, N, P, and S. It fits standard 16ER toolholders in the Snap-Tap series and is appropriate for both light-production and high-volume threading applications where UN-standard external thread forms are required. The ISO-standard geometry ensures interchangeability with compatible toolholder systems.
Designed for use in 16ER-style laydown threading toolholders within the Snap-Tap series. Compatible with workpiece material groups K, M, N, P, and S per ISO classification. Specific toolholder compatibility should be confirmed against the 16ER seat specification before installation.
Insert changes should be performed with the machine in a full stop and all axes locked. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified for the 16ER pocket to avoid seat damage or insert breakage. Verify insert seating and thread-form alignment with a thread gauge before returning the part to production. Follow shop and machine-builder guidelines for insert indexing intervals based on workpiece material and cutting parameters.
