The SECO 00077856 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for right-hand internal American Buttress thread cutting at 12 threads per inch. It carries the CP500 manufacturer grade and is finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating for extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 3/8 inch (0.3750 inch decimal) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.1366 inches, conforming to ISO standards. Part of the Snap Tap series, it is suited for precision threading operations performed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians on lathes and turning centers.
This insert is intended for internal threading applications where American Buttress thread profiles are required. The CP500 micrograin carbide grade with PVD coating makes it effective across universal workpiece material categories, including cast iron, steel, non-ferrous metals, high-temp alloys, and stainless materials as indicated by material codes K, M, N, P, and S. It is commonly used in production machining environments, job shops, and maintenance operations where Buttress thread forms are machined into bores or internal features.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement threading insert for toolholders accepting the 16NR insert style with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, suitable for internal American Buttress threading operations on compatible Snap Tap series tooling.
Threading inserts should be seated and torqued using the toolholder manufacturer's recommended insert clamp screw torque procedure — consult the toolholder documentation before installation. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or indexing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installation, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature failure. This insert is intended for use by qualified machinists familiar with CNC turning and threading operations.
