The SECO 00077791 is a laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide in the CP500 grade, it carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating that helps maintain edge integrity when cutting stainless steel and other difficult-to-machine materials. The insert follows the 16ER style geometry with a right-hand cutting orientation, an 8 threads-per-inch (TPI) pitch, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 60-degree included angle. It is part of the Snap-Tap series and is intended for use by machinists and tooling technicians running precision threading operations in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for external UN thread profiles on materials classified under ISO workpiece material code M, primarily stainless steel. The A2 chipbreaker geometry and PVD coating combination supports stable chip formation and extended tool life in interrupted or continuous threading passes. Typical applications include threading of stainless steel shafts, fittings, fasteners, and similar turned components where thread accuracy and surface finish are critical. This insert is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of two units.
Designed for use in 16ER-style threading toolholders compatible with the Snap-Tap series. Specific toolholder compatibility should be confirmed against the holder manufacturer's insert seat specification before installation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping procedure. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool turret is in a safe indexed position before changing inserts. Verify insert orientation and thread hand against the programmed toolpath before resuming cutting. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the CP500 grade in the given workpiece material.
