The SECO 00077789 is a laydown threading insert designed for external ISO thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from micrograin solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating, this insert handles right-hand external threading at a 3.0mm pitch with a 60-degree included angle. The CP500 grade is optimized for stainless steel and other difficult-to-machine materials. With a 3/8-inch (0.3750 inch) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.1366 inches, it seats securely in compatible 16ER-style toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments rely on this insert for repeatable thread form accuracy on ISO-standard profiles.
This insert is suited for external threading operations on stainless steel workpieces, classified under material grade M. The A2 chipbreaker geometry and Snap Tap series design make it a practical choice for turning centers running ISO-threaded components in both light and medium-duty production runs. This insert is installed and replaced by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe index position before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench or insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert to maintain accurate thread form.
