The SECO 00077781 is a laydown threading insert designed for external ISO threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide in the CP500 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating, it delivers wear resistance and thermal stability on difficult-to-machine materials. The insert features a 1.00 mm thread pitch, a 60-degree included angle, and a right-hand cutting orientation. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.1366 inches, it seats securely in compatible Snap-Tap style toolholders. This insert is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC tooling technicians performing threading cycles in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for external ISO thread forms on stainless steel workpieces, designated material code M. The A2 chipbreaker geometry supports chip control during threading passes on these tough, work-hardening alloys. Typical applications include threading stainless fasteners, fittings, and precision components on CNC turning equipment. The Snap-Tap series design allows repeatable indexing without removal of the toolholder from the machine, reducing setup time during insert changes.
Designed for use in Snap-Tap series toolholders accepting the 16ER insert style with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Verify toolholder specifications before ordering to confirm seat and clamping compatibility.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a stopped, locked-out state per facility LOTO procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert — do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before indexing or replacing. Confirm thread pitch and hand orientation match the programmed threading cycle before resuming operation.
