The SECO 00073944 is an indexable boring bar in the S-SDQC toolholder style, designed for internal boring and turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Built from steel with a 1/2-inch shank diameter and an 8.0-inch overall length, it accepts DCMT 21.5 series inserts secured by a screw clamping method. The right-hand cut orientation and 107.5-degree lead angle suit standard approach angles in finish and semi-finish boring applications. Minimum bore diameter is 0.78 inches, making it suitable for moderately small bores where rigidity and insert access must be balanced. The neutral rake geometry (0-degree rake angle) provides a stable, predictable cutting action across a range of workpiece materials.
This boring bar is suited for job shops, production turning cells, and maintenance machining environments where accurate internal diameters are required. It is applicable to both boring and turning operations, giving a machinist flexibility when setting up a part for multiple features in a single chucking. The DCMT 21.5 insert family is widely stocked, making tooling management straightforward in most shop environments. Coolant-through capability is not available on this bar, so flood or mist coolant directed at the cutting zone is the typical approach for heat management.
Designed for use with DCMT 21.5 series inserts (diamond shape, 1/4-inch inscribed circle, 3/32-inch thickness). Suitable for boring and turning operations on CNC and manual lathes that accept 1/2-inch shank tooling.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or adjusting the boring bar. Torque the shank clamping screws according to the machine tool manufacturer's specifications for 1/2-inch boring bar holders. Inspect the DCMT insert seat and clamping screw for debris or wear before seating a new insert, and confirm the insert is fully seated before taking a cut.
