The SECO 00073176 is a laydown threading insert designed for cutting external Acme threads on CNC lathes and threading machines. Built from solid carbide in the CP500 micrograin grade, it carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating that extends edge life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert follows the 27ER style geometry with a 29-degree included angle specific to Acme thread forms, cuts at 4 threads per inch, and measures 0.6250 inches inscribed circle with a thickness of 0.2421 inches. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert into compatible Snap Tap toolholders for right-hand external threading operations.
This insert is suited for external Acme thread turning in production and job-shop environments. Its universal material grade rating covers cast iron, nonferrous metals, aluminum, steel, and heat-resistant alloys, making it a practical choice when a single insert grade must handle varied workpiece materials. The Acme thread standard is common in lead screw, power screw, and motion-control component manufacturing, where a trapezoidal thread form with a 29-degree flank angle is required. The PVD TiAlN/TiN finish supports dry and semi-dry cutting strategies.
Designed for use with Snap Tap series toolholders that accept the 27ER insert style. Suitable for universal workpiece material grades including cast iron, nonferrous metals, aluminum, steel, stainless, and high-temperature alloys per material codes K, M, N, P, and S.
A licensed machinist or qualified CNC operator should install and index this insert. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench per the toolholder manufacturer's specification when securing the clamp screw. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and thread form accuracy.
