The SECO 00072797 is a laydown threading insert designed for internal UN thread cutting operations. Built from solid carbide with a CP500 grade designation, this insert features a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating applied via physical vapor deposition for extended wear resistance and thermal stability. It cuts right-hand internal threads at 5 threads per inch with a 60-degree included angle, making it suited to standard UN fastener thread profiles. The inscribed circle measures 12.70 mm (1/2 inch) and the insert thickness is 4.71 mm (0.1854 inches). Licensed machinists and CNC toolroom technicians install this insert in compatible laydown toolholders for threaded bore applications across a broad range of workpiece materials.
This insert belongs to the SECO Snap-Tap series and carries a universal primary workpiece material rating, covering material codes K, M, N, P, and S under ISO classification. That range includes cast iron, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. It is appropriate for both production and toolroom environments where internal UN threading is performed on CNC lathes or manual engine lathes equipped with threading capability. The 5 TPI pitch suits coarse-thread fastener bores and heavy-duty threaded connections common in industrial and structural applications.
Designed for use in 22NR-style laydown threading toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert. Consult your toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm pocket geometry and clamping compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and may fracture under excessive clamping force. Verify thread pitch and hand orientation against the workpiece drawing before commencing the threading cycle.
