The SECO 00072723 is a laydown threading insert designed for internal thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating, this insert carries the CP500 grade designation and is engineered for partial profile 60-degree thread forms. It features a left-hand cutting orientation and covers a thread pitch range of 7 to 5 TPI (3.50 to 5.00 mm pitch), making it suitable for a range of coarse-thread applications. The 12.70 mm (1/2 inch) inscribed circle and 4.71 mm thickness conform to standard 22NL insert geometry. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in precision threading operations are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is part of the SECO Snap-Tap series and is suited for internal threading on a wide range of workpiece materials. The universal primary workpiece material classification covers ISO material groups K, M, P, and S, which include cast iron, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature alloys. It is commonly used in production turning environments where consistent thread quality and tool life are priorities. The partial profile 60-degree thread standard makes it applicable for unified and metric 60-degree thread forms without being ground to a single specific pitch.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting the 22NL laydown threading insert style with a 1/2 inch (12.70 mm) inscribed circle. Compatible with SECO Snap-Tap series toolholding systems configured for internal threading applications.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or insert-clamp wrench specified for the toolholder to seat the insert without overtightening. Verify correct insert orientation for left-hand cutting direction before resuming operation. Confirm toolholder and insert grade compatibility with the workpiece material and cutting parameters before production runs.
