The SECO 00072308 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMP-MF1 series, designed for precision metal removal in demanding machining applications. It carries the industry standard designation WNMP331-MF1 and manufacturer grade CP200. The insert features a multilayer PVD coating combining TiAlN and TiN for thermal resistance and wear life. With a trigon (80-degree) shape, neutral hand orientation, and a honed cutting edge style, it delivers consistent performance across boring, facing, and turning operations. The MF1 chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to medium finishing cuts in difficult-to-machine materials.
This insert is engineered primarily for stainless steel and superalloys and titanium (ISO material codes M and S), with secondary suitability for steel and cast iron (ISO codes P and K). The trigon shape with six cutting edges makes it a cost-effective option for shops running high volumes on CNC lathes and turning centers. Applicable material grades include M01, M10, M20, S10, and S20. It supports clamping, pin, and lever lock holding methods, giving flexibility across a range of toolholders. The MF1 chip breaker suits finishing and semi-finishing passes where chip control in gummy or stringy materials is critical.
Designed for use in WNMP-style toolholders that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle trigon insert with clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standard geometries; ISO equivalent is WNMG060404-MF1. Verify toolholder pocket dimensions against the insert thickness of 0.1874 inches and hole diameter of 0.1500 inches before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full lockout-tagout state before any insert change. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and confirm the clamping method is secured to the toolholder manufacturer's specification before resuming operation. Inspect the pocket for chips or damage that could cause the insert to rock or seat improperly. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut indicated by the insert geometry for the workpiece material being machined.
