The SECO 00072305 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNGM-MF1 series, designed for precision finishing operations on stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It carries the industry standard designation VNGM331-MF1 and the ISO code VNGM160404-MF1. The insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius with a sharp cutting edge. A multilayer PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating provides high wear resistance across demanding workpiece materials. The MF1 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, delivering controlled chip formation at light-to-moderate depths of cut.
This insert is suited for finishing applications including turning, facing, profiling, and back turning on CNC lathes and turning centers. Its primary workpiece materials are stainless steel and superalloys and titanium, with secondary suitability for steel and cast iron. The neutral hand orientation and negative rake geometry make it compatible with standard VNGM-style clamp, pin, and lever-lock toolholders used in both light-production and job-shop turning environments. It is appropriate for machinists, toolroom operators, and CNC programmers specifying finishing-grade carbide inserts for high-wear or thermally challenging cuts.
Designed to fit VNGM-style toolholders that accept ANSI size code 331 inserts using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for drop-in replacement in compatible turning systems.
