The SECO 00072296 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VCGR332 geometry, designed for high-performance metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 35-degree diamond insert shape (shape code V) with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a 1/32 inch corner radius. The multilayer TiAlN and TiN PVD coating delivers heat resistance and wear protection suited for demanding cutting environments. With two cutting edges, a positive rake, and a honed cutting edge style, this insert is built for precision turning applications where surface finish and tool life matter. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job shop settings.
This insert is engineered primarily for stainless steel and superalloys and titanium (ISO material codes M and S), with secondary suitability for steel and cast iron (ISO codes P and K). Typical applications include back turning, facing, profiling, and general turning. The flat top chip breaker geometry and positive rake angle make it well suited for lighter cuts on difficult-to-machine materials where chip control and edge stability are critical. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards and carries the ISO code VCGR160408 with an industry standard number of VCGR332.
Designed for use in VCGR-series clamp-style toolholders that accept a 332 insert size. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards (ISO code VCGR160408, industry standard number VCGR332), making it interchangeable with toolholders built to those specifications. Suitable for multi-use applications including back turning, facing, profiling, and turning.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool turret is indexed to a safe position before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and secure the clamp per the toolholder manufacturer's torque procedure. Inspect the insert seating and clamp contact before resuming cutting operations.
