The SECO 00072293 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VCGR series, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC turning operations. Carrying ANSI code VCGR331 and ISO code VCGR160404, this insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a flat-top chip breaker geometry. It is coated with a multilayer PVD TiAlN and TiN coating under the SECO CP200 grade, delivering high wear resistance across demanding materials. The neutral hand orientation and positive rake and side clearance make it well suited for external turning, facing, profiling, and back turning applications. Installation is performed by licensed machinists and CNC operators working with indexable toolholding systems.
This insert is intended for cutting stainless steel and superalloys and titanium as its primary workpiece materials, with steel and cast iron as secondary materials. The CP200 grade characteristics include high wear resistance for steel (P) applications and a balance of wear resistance to moderate toughness for stainless steel (M) and special or super alloys (S) applications. It fits standard VCGR-style toolholders and is appropriate for both light and medium material removal in high-precision turning environments. The flat-top chip breaker supports chip control across facing, profiling, back turning, and general turning passes.
Designed for use in VCGR-series indexable turning toolholders accepting ANSI size code 331 or ISO size code 160404 inserts. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for interchangeability with compliant clamp-style toolholding systems.
This insert is installed and indexed by machinists or CNC operators using appropriate insert clamp toolholders designed for the VCGR331 insert size. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing any cutting insert. Use manufacturer-specified clamp hardware and torque procedures for the toolholder in use — do not overtighten clamp screws, as this can chip the insert. Inspect the seating pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert.
