The SECO 00072233 is a CNMG432-MR3 indexable turning insert in the CP200 carbide grade, coated with a multilayer TiAlN and TiN PVD coating for enhanced wear resistance and thermal stability. It features an 80-degree diamond insert shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0315-inch corner radius. The MR3 chip breaker geometry is engineered for positive chip control across a range of material removal rates. With four available cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, this insert is suited for use in production turning applications where tool life and surface consistency are priorities. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers.
This insert is designed for primary use on stainless steel and superalloys and titanium, with secondary suitability for steel and cast iron. It supports boring, facing, and turning operations and is compatible with toolholders that accept CNMG-style inserts using clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods. The MR3 chip breaker geometry performs across material grades M01, M10, M20, S10, and S20. The ISO designation is CNMG120408-MR3 and the industry standard number is CNMG432-MR3, providing direct cross-reference for toolholder selection and procurement.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes M and S). Secondary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron (ISO material codes P and K). Compatible toolholder applications include boring, facing, and turning.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before clamping. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications for the selected holding method — clamp, pin, or lever lock — as these vary by toolholder design and are not specified here.
